Oh God. Walk cycles. The bane of my first year. Getting started and being able to visualise the cycle in my head was a real struggle. Even thinking about it sometimes brought me out in a cold sweat. Kidding, once I got into them they were quite enjoyable and fun, and I was able to be quite creative with the films I was making. This project was another which was a basic skill to be able to have and use in animation. Since completing it I have realised how much walk cycles are used and how important they are to grasp.

I did some research into walk cycles and a couple of artists who paint a lot of people so I could see different styles and maybe get some inspiration. This was all sketchbook work.

Once I begun to animate, again, I started off basic and worked up to more complex cycles.

I also tried to draw people from different angles and using different techniques, like stop-motion.

When doing stop-motion, we worked in pairs in the stop-motion studio next to our regular studio. I love stop-motion, and was very excited about getting to use the equipment and the set up in there is so cool.

We worked in pairs, and with Emma we created both our own walk cycle and also a collaboration with each other, which was really fun.
