The collaboration project for this semester has been a collaboration with the Jewellery department at ECA. We began by completing some different workshops and learning about each other's departments. For our brief, we had to create an organism which combats a problem in todays society. We had some pointers, for example to pick between a category for our problem to come from:

Tanshumanism: the belief or theory that the human race can evolve beyond its current physical and mental limitations, especially by means of science and technology.

Posthumanism: A more pessimistic alternative to transhumanism in which humans will not be enhanced, but rather eventually replaced by artificial intelligences. It includes the idea of voluntary human extinction, which seeks a “posthuman future” that in this case is a future without humans.

Naturalism – those who want to continue the evolution of the human race with limited/careful use of genetic intervention which would be available to all i.e. to eradicate harmful genetic disease. Naturalists are pro technology.

Anarcho-Primitivists- advocates for a return to a non-'civilized' way of life through deindustrialization.

We then took part in a few workshops, one being a sandcasting workshop in the jewellery department, and the other was a phonotrope workshop in the animation department. Below are a few images from these two workshops.

After this we split into teams and began to decide on what we wanted to do for our projects. Our group all seemed to be interested in the issue of plastic in the world's oceans, and so we decided to focus in on creating an organism to either get rid of, or reduce the amount of plastic in the ocean which is there because of waste from humans. We did initial research into how we could combat this and how we could help the issue.

After this, we developed storyboards for our film and looked at development of organisms. As we had to have 10 creatures/stages, we decided on one original organism which evolves into 2 creatures which both combat the issue of plastic pollution. We also worked on developing materials to use for our physical creatures such as plastic, resin and copper.

Our final designs -

We made three boards to show the research, development and final pieces of our project also.

In the end we decided to use mostly stop motion animation for our film, with a small amount of 2D animation. In the stop motion sections, we wanted to use a watercolour background to animate our actual models on top of.

Here are a couple of the end film's clips:

Part of my individual job was to create two animated sequences to be at the beginning and the end of the stop motion part of the film.

Another way our group used to communicate was by Pinterest. We shared pictures and research on here - https://www.pinterest.co.uk/news_hub/4963749121520318345

The final film is below:
